I am voting for Donald Trump.
I didn’t think I would ever come to that definitive conclusion. In 2016 and 2020 I abstained from voting for either candidate because, well, our options have been awful for years now. I wasn’t going to vote for Trump, but I look at the Democrat Party and know that’s never an option.
So, how did I get here? How did a #NeverTrumper like myself — I guess not a #NeverTrumper anymore! — decide to finally vote for Donald Trump?
Two words: Kamala Harris. Well, three more words: the Democratic Party.
I had been leaning heavily toward voting for Trump for about two months. The more I see from Kamala Harris, the less confident I am in the state of our country if she gets elected. And then, to push me even further, I read this Facebook post from Robert P. George:

The Democrat Party we see today “is not your grandfather’s, or even your father’s, Democratic Party.” And note the preceding paragraph where George states, “They make it impossible for many Americans (e.g., faithful Catholics, evangelical Protestants, orthodox Jews, many ordinary working class people) to vote Democratic, even if they don’t like or trust Donald Trump.”
Exactly. I do not like Donald Trump. I think, as a presidential candidate, he is not qualified. He wasn’t in 2016 or 2020. And neither is Kamala Harris.
But this is where we are. I’ve asked myself on numerous occasions, “Would I rather Kamala Harris or Donald Trump be POTUS?” And my answer is an unequivocal, “Trump.”
You’re not asking for reasons why I decided to abandon the #NeverTrump train, but I’m telling you anyway. My vote this week is far more of a #NeverKamala vote than it is a #MAGA vote.
So, let me provide some practical reasons below and perhaps it will encourage or benefit you voting as a Christian.
Issues
Religious Liberty. I am not the least bit concerned about religious liberty under the Trump-Vance ticket than I would be under the Harris-Walz ticket. To be sure, the gates of Hell won’t prevail against the church, even if Harris-Walz wins. There is no true threat to the church of Jesus Christ. With that being said, there would certainly be more religious liberty problems under Kamala Harris than Donald Trump. Even though Trump is a chameleon of sorts, I have confidence he’d stand for religious liberty. But even is Kamala wins and religious liberty diminishes, God is still on His throne.
Making sure abortion isn’t codified. Harris-Walz have made it clear they’ll do everything in their power to codify Roe v. Wade into law. It’s abysmal and horrific. To be sure, Trump has wavered on his supposed pro-life position from 2016 and 2020; he said he would veto a national abortion ban (I strongly disagree, obviously); but it’s certainly not akin to the party of death position in the Democratic Party.
Gender/Trans Issues. Trump, admittedly, is pandering a bit to the LGBTQ+ agenda; with that said, I am pretty confident a Trump-Vance ticket is going to stick up for conservative politics and not cave into the gender/trans ideology and the day, with all the mumbo-jumbo about preferred pronouns and whatnot. With Harris-Walz, we know they’re going to continue that.
Economy. The economy under Trump from 2016-2020 was generally good. Since then, not so much. Need I say more?
So, there it is. I am voting for Trump this week because I believe the country is better off with him. Either way, Christian, God is still on the throne, He’s still sovereign, and nothing can come against His church.
