Christian, be a Student of God’s Word

Christians should be Bible people, and yet we all struggle with knowing and reading the Scriptures. The Bible, of course, is the way God has communicates to us.

Even when we decide to take up God’s Word to read, we wind up confused, frustrated and discouraged because we don’t understand what we’re reading. That discouragement compels us to neglect His Word. However, that’s the wrong response.

I know studying God’s Word—doing theology, as some say—can be a tedious task, but it’s an important task. And no, not all Christians are called to be scholars of the Word, but we must all be students of the Word.

Why, though, must we be diligent in studying Scripture? Because it is inspired by God, breathed out (2 Timothy 3:16-17). When we read Scripture, God is speaking to us. His Word is inerrant—without error. And it contains all we need to live a godly life. Therefore, it is not only silly to neglect His Word, but spiritually damaging.

Friends, if you read this devotional this morning and have already read Scripture, that’s wonderful. But if you haven’t, take the time—5, 10, 15 minutes—and read the Holy Word of God. Let God speak to you through those pages and be refreshed by the living and active Scriptures.
