The Christian life is one of battles, of daily spiritual fights that we must engage in if we desire to grow in Christ. We don’t get out of that. The biggest thing we must fight is our unbelief, for that is where all other sins originate from.

In his book Battling Unbelief: Defeating Sin with Superior Pleasure, John Piper seeks to show the reader how to biblically fight sin, and the first thing to realize is the source of our sin: unbelief.

Piper’s work here is a masterclass in how to truly overcome sin in our lives and be obedient to God. It’s not about just white-knuckling our temptations and holding on for dear life. No, we defeat sin by seeing believing that the promises of the Lord are far superior than the promises of sin.

That’s the main point, although Piper does detail district ways how we sin in our anxiety, pride, and other ways as unbelief undergirds all of them. This is another classic Piper work that needs to be read by many!
