Proof of God’s Love

Proof of God’s Love

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (‭‭‭John‬ ‭3‬‬:‭16‬ ‭ESV‬‬)

The cross is proof of God’s love. And we must understand when it says God so loved the world, John’s not referring to quantity of people in the world, but the quality, per se. In other words, he’s referring to the fact that Jesus died even for wicked and perverse sinners—like you and me.

This is astonishing, breathtaking, that Jesus—truly God and truly man—would die upon the cross for sinners. If we ever doubt God’s love for us, we must look to the cross, where His love was displayed.

Christian, please know that God doesn’t love you in a general sense, but in a covenantal way. His love for you is more far special and affectionate than His love for the entire population. It’s an electing love, a love He’s had for you before the foundation of the world.

When we believe that, it’s far easier to follow Jesus more faithfully. Rest in God’s love today.
