My Hiding Place

I am not a poet, nor do I believe that the following is anything to write home about. However, I felt compelled to give it a try just for its own sake and wanted the challenge. This poem is based on Psalm 119:114, “You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in your word.”

When troubles surround me
And burden my soul;
I gaze upon Your beauty
Which comforts me whole.
Engulfed in a sea of distress
Where anxiety pierces like a dart;
Your Word is nothing less
Than a balm to my waning heart.
You, O Lord, are my hiding place,
My refuge, and my Rock;
You do not hide Your face
as I face temptation around the clock.

Help me to see Your glory,
Your majesty, and Your grace;
As sin entraps my story
And I neglect to run my race.

O Lord, Your sovereign care
Is sweet music to my ears;
As You know the number of my hair
And readily assuage my fears.

Teach me, Lord, to fall on my knees
And direct my gaze toward You;
For You are the one who sees
And the one who made me new.
