Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus

“Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face; and the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.”

These words from this rich hymn are a balm to the soul, a sweet sound to the ears of weary saints. Life is rough. Something else is lurking around the corner, preparing to make life even harder.

But, like the hymn says, when we turn our eyes upon Jesus, the cares of this world, the worries of this life, the anxieties of the day—they grow “strangely dim.”

Indeed, they do. it’s supernatural, really. When we fix our gaze upon the majesty and glory of our God and Savior, it’s very difficult for the difficulties of life to bring us down—no matter if it’s sickness, criticism, persecution, or something in between. Turning our eyes toward Jesus doesn’t eliminate suffering, but makes it bearable, for we know an incomparable glory awaits.

So, friend, are you struggling? Are you tangled up in the affairs of this world? Do you wonder if you’ll ever get out of this mess—whether it was created by you or not your fault? Whatever it is, do this one thing: turn your eyes upon Jesus. Stare at His wonderful face. You will find less anxiety in your heart, decreased worry in your mind when you continually gaze at the person and work of Jesus Christ.
