A Trinitarian Salvation

We speak of God saving us, and that is all well and good—as we should! We should continually attest to the goodness and kindness of God our Savior. In His rich mercy, He “…made us alive together with Christ….” (Eph. 2:5).

But do we understand the Trinitarian aspect to our salvation? Put another way, do we comprehend the fact that all three persons of the Godhead—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—play a role in our salvation?

Let’s look at them briefly and marvel at our God.

God the Father elects. I know many Christians turn away from this notion, but the fact is, election (just like predestination) is in the Bible. We can’t skirt around it if we desire faithfulness. God chose people to save before the foundation of the world (Eph. 1:4-5). And this was not done by foreseen faith but purely “according to the counsel of His will” (v. 5b).

God the Son purchases. Jesus had one mission on Earth: to save those whom the Father chose by pure, sovereign grace (Luke 19:10). And there will be not one person lost whom God chose (Jn. 6:39). Even more, this means the Son’s atonement wasn’t a mere possibly of salvation, but a securement of it. In a real sense, we were saved the moment Jesus paid the price and then rose three days later.

God the Holy Spirit. We needed divine intervention to even see Jesus as beautiful. We needed the Spirit to open our eyes and hearts to repent and believe. If left to ourselves, not only would we never be able to do it, we wouldn’t want to, either.

Friends, one could write a book on this subject. Marvel today at our Trinitarian God and His mercy.

    Amen!

I was doing a little research on the attributes of the Holy Spirit. What a blessing to know that the Holy Spirit is the “guarantee of our inheritance”!

Great post, all truth. God is sovereign and ALL things are fine according to His will.
