Rest

Rest

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭29‬)

What is wearing on you? What is causing sinful anxiety to swell up in your heart? What is beating you down so severely to the point you can’t seem to get back up?

Jesus invites you to rest.

Stop trying to “be better.” He was, and is enough. Stop trying to take it upon yourself. He took your sin on Himself and is now resurrected. Stop trying to pull yourself up by your bootstraps. He resurrected three days later and is interceding for you now.

Jesus invites us to rest our souls in Him, for He knows what we go through. He is aware of our temptations, our anxieties, our insecurities. He understands our frustrations, our worries, our concerns. He’s pleading with you, Christian, to rest.

Rest in His warm embrace.

Rest in His unflinching love.

Rest in His loving arms.

Jesus beckons you to forsake your sin, your attempts at righteousness, your silly ways of using your own supposed strength. He has done it all for you. There’s no need to keep running, continue striving. Jesus took care of it. Whatever it is. He wants you to stop: stop worrying, stop fretting, stop thinking the world is caving in when you’re safe in the everlasting arms of Jesus and the Father’s child.

Rest, child.
