There is an old trick referring 1 Corinthians 13 that people do to measure if they love well. All you do is replace the word love with your name in the text when it says, “Love is patient, love is kind . . .”
It would look like this: “Blake is patient, Blake is kind, Blake does not envy or boast; he is not arrogant or rude. Blake does not insist on his own way; he is not irritable or resentful; he does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Blake bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
Do you want to bring needed conviction in your life? Read those verses and insert your name. By my estimation, I am not patient or kind enough; I envy too much and sometimes I boast in myself rather than Christ. There are times when I am arrogant or rude, unfortunately. You get the point.
With that being said, we should not fall too deep into despair, because the beauty is that Jesus is all these things perfectly. You can read it like this: “Jesus is patient, Jesus is kind, Jesus does not envy or boast; He is not arrogant or rude. Jesus does not insist on His own way; He is not irritable or resentful; He does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Jesus bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” And the even better part: if you are born again, you have His righteousness—so when God looks at you, He sees Jesus!
