Defending Your Faith

Defending Your Faith

“but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,” (1 Peter‬ ‭3‬:‭15‬)

It’s of utmost important to believe in Jesus—eternity hinges on it. It’s also important to understand why you believe in Jesus. Learning about the evidence around Jesus’s life and the existence of God doesn’t make you a Christian but can certainly strengthen our faith.

Christian, God calls you to be able to “give a reason” for your faith. Have you ever had a conversation with a skeptic and had to say, “I don’t know the answer to that”? Of course, you will have to say “I don’t know” sometimes because we can’t know everything, but do you say it because you don’t take the time to study about such things?

Learn about apologetics, which is simply defending the faith. Study the different arguments for God’s existence, the resurrection, and so on. Ponder the depths of the copies of biblical manuscripts we have today compared to Plato, Aristotle, et al.

For example, did you know one of the key reasons why the resurrection must be true is that women were the first to notice He resurrected? In those times, the testimony of women was invalid. So, why in the world would the biblical authors go through the trouble of writing that women first saw Him alive?

There’s one line valid answer: because that’s what really happened.

There’s so, so much more to learn, friend. We don’t have a blind faith. We ought to trust God at His revealed Word, and learn about the different areas of evidence to support the truthfulness of the Christian faith.
