For God to be Sovereign

For God to be sovereign, He must be sovereign over all.

He must be sovereign over the winds of the sea and the birds of the air.

He must be sovereign over the cries of infants and the triumphs of men.

He must be sovereign over the crawling insect and the ferocious lion.

He must be sovereign over the tears of widows and the praises of saints.

He must be sovereign over the writing of words and the speaking of podcasts.

He must be sovereign over the engines of vehicles and the wheels of bicycles.

He must be sovereign over the suffering of the ailing father and the pain of the nursing mother.

He must be sovereign over the growing of grass and the winds within a tornado.

He must be sovereign over the schemes of Satan and the works of demons.

Have you gotten the picture? Many are repulsed by the notion that God is sovereign over everything—included our choices (though our choices are still free to an extent). They are repulsed by God being in control over the car wreck, the cancer, the sickness. But what would it be like if God were not sovereign over those things? Chaos. Madness. Utter helplessness.

Friend, whenever you decide to read this—when you wake up, when you go about your day, or when you go to bed—remember God is sovereign.

For God to be sovereign, He must be sovereign over our salvation, regenerating our hearts by the sole work of the Holy Spirit to cause sinners to repent and believe in the finished work of Jesus Christ.

Praise be to our sovereign God!
