“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” (Psalm 23:4 ESV)
The Bible doesn’t merely speak of God’s omnipresence as it relates to being with His children. In one sense, I know God is with me because God is with everyone—He is everywhere.
But the “with me” that consoles my heart, eases my mind, and enraptures my affection is His imminence as my Heavenly Father. It doesn’t matter how life is, what I’m enduring, or where I am going. I know He is with me. What an encouraging truth!
He is with me when life is difficult. Stress is a constant opponent each day, rearing its ugly head to cause pain and anxiety. He is with me when temptation arises and defeats me—again and again. He is with me when I succumb to sin, and He is with me when, by God’s grace, I stand back up again.
He is with me when everything is perfect. Job is great, family is wonderful, church is unified, and my personal devotions are consistent. He is with me even when I subconsciously live independently from Him, believing I’m living by my strength, my effort, and intelligence. Even when I’m arrogant, He is with me.
And the same is true for you, believer. He is with you. When your world is falling apart, when the bills aren’t paid, when medical bills are rising—He is with you. He is your strength, your shield, your comforter.
